boutique / showroom

On the corner of a 17th century mansion in Paris’ Haut Marais, facing the courtyard of the Hôtel de Retz, the first éclectic boutique was inaugurated in May 2011.

Although the building’s façade respects the spirit of Parisian boutiques from the turn of the century, the interior itself is remarkably avant-garde. Born of collaboration between Marion Collard and Franck Malègue, the young Parisian architect and the label’s founder, the éclectic boutique is a cubic space that totally breaks with the traditional codes of the traditional boutique. Playing with the verticality of steel and parallelism between elements, the space - uncluttered and minimalist - becomes the ideal environment to showcase éclecticjackets.

After having totally gutted the space, original beams, stone masonry, and steel supports were revealed in their original glory. These discoveries were key to the conceptualization of the space as much as they help echo the spirit of the brand. The floor is made of resin and concrete; the walls are 4 meters high and whitewashed showing off a range of texture. One of them, leading to a stoned-paved courtyard, remains hidden by an innovative material : tyvek. Covered in this nonwoven fabric with thermal insulating properties, the wall is a wink at the technical materials borrowed by éclectic jackets.

To show coherence between the handmade clothing and their surroundings, éclectic called upon the artisan savoir-faire of the design trade to constitute its furnishings. No object is standardized: the hanging rails were specially ordered and handcrafted by an iron craftsman in France, while a Belgian designer created the armchairs.  As for the boutique’s lighting, it was sourced from an artisan company in Turin that specializes in illuminating museums and art galleries.

Marion Collard and Franck Malègue’s great renovation also included the restoration of 200 square meters of vaulted cellars, also dating from the 17th century.  The photographer Nils Herrmann has since installed his studio there and collaborates regularly with the brand, notably on the concept eclecticportraits whose images are constantly projected on the walls of the boutique.
